Flamenco Fusion with subtle elements of Latin rock, pop, reggae, and ska.
El Payo is a popular Rumba/Nuevo Flamenco-Fused group based in Chicago. They celebrated the release of their self-titled debut album in 2011. The members hail from diverse ethnic backgrounds including Venezuela, Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico, and the United States. Their distinct sound is infused with elements of rock, salsa, ska, and reggae with unmistakable overtones of passionate raw energy that is flamenco music. They also perform with Flamenco dancers for special performances. El Payo’s style is based in Flamenco. They can adapt their repertoire and sound to two musical formats depending on the style of the event or occasion. First they offer a modern Flamenco/Latin fusion style which usually is a larger ensemble. The second option is a traditional Flamenco ensemble which is more acoustic and authentic to Spanish culture and could possibly have fewer musicians. Both versions can include a Flamenco dancer or dancers as well. Ideally, for concerts both styles are integrated, for the variety that the traditional and modern styles bring.
